I get along with just about everyone, but I definitely make the effort to do that. I pick my battles, and have learned to deal with conflict without personalizing everything. When people disagree with you, it doesn't mean they do not like you. It sounds to me that you may take even constructive criticisms too personally and become defensive without really hearing the other person. It's more important to listen to your coworkers than it is to like them all or have them like you. We need to be able to listen to someone's concerns or complaints and say, "I hear what you're saying. Let me think about this and we can talk later. " It gives you time to take in the message without being mad at the messenger. You can evaluate what they were trying to tell you and see if there is truth to it, if you can learn something and maybe change something for the better. The first step is to recognize that you probably could use some work on your communication skills if it's more than one or two people you are having trouble with. And maybe try to understand why you get defensive so quickly and have to "stand up for" yourself over everything. Good luck!
Depends who the person is
I am actually a very mellow person, and tend to get along with many people. I have often thought that females can tend to be a bit c ish and rude to each other, I think that is mostly attributed to their emotional nature and what they perceive as threats to their own desirability and more. Mind you I do not think that every female is like this, some are very intelligent and emotionally mature individuals
i tend to get along well with others, female or male. my problem is that i do not stand up for myself. i am the door mat for all the extra work etc. LOL. oh well, life goes on and i am just grateful to have a job!. maybe you should record yourself with the same tone that you speak with and look in the mirror when saying it. its weird how some folks tone or look, even though not ment to be offensive, can be offensive. maybe you should listen to yourself and look in the mirror when talking to see if maybe you sound rough or if you have a hard look. does that make sense. i had to do that with a friend of mine. she had the same problem. and now, she knows what to correct so that others do not read her incorrectly!
Sometimes a misunderstanding and a miscommunication, can turn in to one big giant mess. Add in the office gossips and you get an even bigger ugly mess. Instead of trying to take of the whole office, try one person at a time. Try getting to know this one person a little better. Take them out to lunch away from the work place and just talk. Not about who said that she said that you said stuff. But just try to get to know them better. Once you have made a friend of one, the others will soon follow. And before you know it, the ugly mess is forgotten and you can all move on. :
oh erfly you are not a bad person at all. I try to get along with everyone. sometimes I have to try very hard though. I will share a couple of things I have learned. everyone wants to be loved and they want to be correct. they want respect and kindness. usually what I find wrong or annoying with others is in some way, however small whats wrong with me. that one took me a while to come to terms with, but I found it to be true. most of the time. and when i point fingers at someones behavior I need to remember that I have 3 pointing back at me

i know how you feel. its like, people only like me, when i give them what they want. when i let them walk all over me. i do not get along well with some people. but i figure, as long as i get what i need to get done. then i will just ignore them. im a loner so its not hard for me to be left out and excluded. and sometimes i prefer that anyways
